At DZS we pride ourselves on solving real-world communications challenges that will help our communications service provider (CSP) customers win in today’s hypercompetitive marketplace. We do this by continually innovating and bringing unique solutions to market. That is the case with the introduction of the latest addition to our to the category-defining Saber optical portfolio, the DZS Saber 2200 coherent xHaul Ethernet transport switch.
This environmentally hardened, high capacity, low latency solution transforms the economics of delivering flexible 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) transport circuits necessary for advanced mobile front/midhaul and edge transport using an array of critical Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) features including integrated Grand Master Timing (GMT). The ultra-compact the Saber 2200 supports standard 100G direct detect optics, a variety of coherent optics including OpenZR+ and XR, and can function as a high Precision Time Protocol (PTP) Class C Boundary Clock with Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) support.
What separates the Saber 2200 from other xHaul and Ethernet business solutions is its advanced support of coherent optics; ability to deliver a unique blend of low latency switching; enhanced common public radio interface (eCPRI)/CPRI transport functionality via Radio Over Ethernet (ROE); and integrated GMT. This distinctive combination enables service providers to cost-effectively deploy new greenfield and brownfield cell sites as 5G deployments continue to increase.
The Saber 2200 is an extremely powerful solution, providing 800 Gbps of low-latency switching and supporting TSN features in a small, deploy-anywhere package. In addition, it provides 4×1/10GE (SFP/SFP+), 24x10GE/25GE (SFP+/SFP28) access Ethernet ports and 4x100GE (QSFP28/QSFP-DD) line Ethernet ports. The Saber 2200 is designed to support a variety of 100G coherent optical options and OpenZR+ coherent pluggables.
It also supports XR optics, operating as a leaf node within point-to-point, Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM) or point-to-multipoint XR fiber networks, terminating 25GE, 50GE, 75GE or 100GE of available bandwidth from the XR link. By combining the Saber 2200 with the award-winning DZS Saber 4400 hardened Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) optical transport solution, service providers can flexibly scale and transport Layer 2/Layer 3 network services over DWDM networks in any environment.
When it comes to delivering the high capacity, low latency required at the network edge to cost-effectively support the skyrocketing transport bandwidth requirements of 4G, 5G, hybrid and business networks, no other solution can compete with the new DZS Saber 2200.
Reaping the Benefits of XR Optics with New DZS/Infinera Solution
We followed the launch of our Saber 2200 up with an exciting new partnership with open optical networking solutions leader Infinera. Leveraging DZS’ leadership in Layer 2 switching and Infinera’s innovation in open optical networking, we recently introduced game-changing new integrated ICE-X Coherent Pluggable solutions for mobile xHaul and ultra-high-speed symmetrical business services from 25GE to 400GE.
The advanced solution combines the DZS Saber 2200 Coherent Ethernet Switch and Infinera’s intelligent coherent pluggables enabling service providers to reap the benefits of XR Optics, which include reduced CapEx and OpEx; greater operational efficiencies; and improved network performance. The one-of-a-kind integrated solution delivers a powerful optical transmission offering capable of supporting any deployment scenario.
Leveraging the integrated DZS/Infinera solution, service providers can now deliver high density aggregation, high bandwidth, low latency front/mid/backhaul and ethernet business service connectivity, and critical network timing in a comprehensive solution, whether at a central office or new/existing cell site or enterprise location. The combined solution allows service providers to capitalize on the benefits of XR-powered point-to-multi-point applications including the ability to improve switching efficiencies at centralized sites, reduce power consumption and carbon footprint, and reduce the number of aggregation sites and truck rolls.
The DZS Saber 2200 can operate as a leaf node leveraging Infinera’s ICE-X’s ability to support point-to-point or point-to-multi-point applications. The integrated solution enables service providers to cost-efficiently deliver 25GE, 50GE, 75GE, 100GE and 200GE enterprise-class services over current Passive Optical Networking (PON) infrastructure. The ability to transmit bi-directional high-speed services over a single fiber will also enable network operators to expand their networks rapidly and cost-effectively for 5G and beyond.
We jointly demonstrated the new solution with Infinera at the recent Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC) in San Diego and the interest from prospective customers was extremely high. DZS is committed to continually delivering our customers across the globe differentiated solutions like the Saber 2200 and the newly integrated ICE-X Coherent Pluggable offering will that help them not only compete, but more importantly win!
