FTTH Europe 2023 – the world’s largest fiber optic tradeshow and conference – brought together more than 3,000 attendees from all over the world to my home town – the beautiful city of Madrid. The conference program offered rich insights into a wide range of Fiber-to-the-Home and other fiber-enabled technology and regulatory topics. Similar to last year’s FTTH conference in Vienna, our DZS booth (accented in blue and magenta) shined in our Platinum Sponsor location in the exhibition area. Keith Nauman, SVP of Access Edge Solutions, did a great job of representing DZS’s disruptive technology innovations in front of a packed room during two different keynote and panel sessions about the “Future of PON technologies”.
One key takeaway from the conference is that there is a consensus that FTTH is the technology that will enable and develop digital societies throughout the world. However, discussions are becoming more focused on when and how the different “Experience Providers” serving those societies globally will need to begin offering services that require speeds of 10G, 50G and beyond in fiber access networks. The impact of this significant increase in bandwidth soon to come in the access edge (roughly 5G and 10G speeds to the home) will have major implications for the redesign of aggregation and optical transport networks.
Through our industry expertise and innovative solutions, DZS was once again able to show why we are a leading voice in the FTTH discussion in Europe and globally. Customers, prospects and partners who visited the DZS booth learned about our pioneering and disruptive Access EDGE, Optical EDGE, Cloud EDGE and Subscriber EDGE solutions, which are all unmatched in their Return on Investment (ROI) and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) advantages. Additionally, the need to accompany these efforts with proper platforms for network automation, virtualization, and orchestration (which lead to the new paradigm of zero-touch autonomous networks) was also a key point of discussion.
Our DZS booth also had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Heinz Pabisch, the venerable winner of the FTTH Charles Kao Award, which honors fiber pioneer Professor Sir Charles Kuen Kao, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2009 for “ground-breaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibers for optical communication.” Mr. Pabisch is a distinguished lifelong contributor to the fiber industry, and we were honored to host his company and discuss the future of full-fiber connectivity.
Overall, the conference reinforced DZS’s vision of supporting European service providers in their relentless fiber broadband network transformation to XGS-PON and 50G PON and the new cycle of investments from governments and the private sector over the next decade.
A big thank you to team DZS for making FTTH Europe 2023 in Madrid a great success. We cannot wait to highlight new breakthrough technology innovations in fiber broadband access, optical transport and cloud enabled software solutions at FTTH Berlin in March of 2024!
