According to a recent study commissioned by the Wi-Fi Alliance, the global economic value of the WiFi industry is estimated to grow from $3.3 trillion USD in 2021  to nearly $5 trillion in 2025. WiFi is a subject that I am extremely passionate about, so I was thrilled to have the privilege to participate in a podcast with the Wi-Fi Alliance’s Martha DeGrasse to highlight the important role DZS is playing in enabling this vital technology and improving the end-user WiFi experience through the innovation we are bringing to market.

Our wide-ranging interview touched on several key topics including how DZS is simplifying the complexity and interoperability of WiFi; how we are helping our customers resolve the in-home connectivity challenge; and how WiFi has quickly become “Infrastructure for Life”.

AI-Driven Platform Delivers Simplicity and Control

For the last decade, the main problems with in-home WiFi have been complexity and interoperability of different technologies. Because of that complexity, service providers must deal with a massive base of different vendors with which to implement their solutions. As a result, the end user in-home experience degrades.

The root problems of complexity and interoperability cause several knock-on effects, such as increased customer churn, more customer calls and more truck rolls. What technology providers have been attempting to do – and what DZS has done – is to bring more insight into the service provider’s operations to address the complexity and interoperability.

For example, DZS CloudCheck — DZS’ award-winning AI-driven service assurance and WiFi experience management platform — offers industry-leading simplicity and control. Leveraging cutting-edge innovation, CloudCheck provides insight on user behavior, satisfaction levels and end-to-end network performance. Further, the data points gathered by the CloudCheck application are correlated and converted into actionable recommendations and automated real-time optimizations which benefit the end user and make their in-home WiFi experience dramatically more enjoyable.

Meeting the In-Home Connectivity Challenge

DZS works with large-scale, Tier-1 operators around the world, in addition to hundreds of smaller Communications Service Providers (CSPs) across the globe. What we find is that carriers understand the challenge of in-home connectivity, but need help closing the operational gap in delivering the services users want. That’s where DZS is helping our customers accelerate the deployment of these products and services, while managing the interoperability of an ever-growing number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

DZS solutions, including CloudCheck, manage in-home WiFi connectivity through a superior data utilization system. Insights are gleaned not just from historical user data, but also real-time behavioral data of end users. This data coupled with other supporting technologies allows solutions like CloudCheck to make actionable recommendations based on different users, different times of use and different purposes of use.

No matter the time or purpose, one thing is clear: it is WiFi innovation that will continue to enable both old and new, necessary and recreational experiences for end users within the home.

Infrastructure for Life

Our belief is that WiFi is infrastructure for life. This trend was accelerated by the pandemic, becoming invaluable in the critical domains of education, healthcare and work.

It is imperative that WiFi keeps improving to meet the demands of the digital age. Advanced standards like WiFi 6E and WiFi 7 will play a significant role in the evolution of WiFi. By adopting these standards, users can expect reduced latency, faster internet speeds and more dependable connectivity for demanding applications.

WiFi’s role as an essential component of the digital world will only continue to grow as areas like IoT, connected devices, smart-homes and business become more pervasive. We also see cybersecurity, elderly care, entertainment, gaming, streaming video, and ultra-high-definition television (UHD) growing in importance, which also necessitate WiFi evolution.

The key is to continue improving the technology which will in turn enhance the overall end-user WiFi experience. This will create new revenue streams for service providers, while also improving operational efficiencies – and more importantly improve our overall standard of living.
