What is Access Edge?

The Access Edge in broadband networks is a multi-service access network at the edge providing multi-gigabit access services over fiber to homes, businesses, and mobile subscribers.

The Access Edge supports a broad range of widely deployed and next-generation fiber access technologies, including Passive Optical Network (PON) technologies like GPON/XGS-PON and 1G/10G/25G/40G/100G Active Ethernet and Mobile x-haul today, and the capacity to easily expand to support 50G-PON services in the future. The Access Edge is managed and automated via an open, end-to-end, software-defined management, control and automation/orchestration system to ease network operations and service delivery (Cloud Edge in the diagram below).
