Governments use regulatory levers to close the digital divide and promote cyber-security

The COVID-19 pandemic triggered an acceleration of the digital age, creating an unprecedented initiative to deliver universal broadband availability – now considered an essential service, like power and water.

Governmental bodies around the world have dedicated more than $120 billion ($77 billion+ in the U.S.) over the next decade to help bridge the digital divide and connect their citizens to robust broadband, delivered primarily over fiber.

As part of these initiatives, many governments have also dedicated parts of these funds, or created entirely separate initiatives, to fund cybersecurity and ensure that these essential networks are safe and secure.
